Join the EU Commission Open Day on Nanotechnologies, 27 October 2010
“The development of nanotechnologies in and from Europe for more societal benefits” is the topic of an open workshop organized by the EU Commission High Level Group on Key Enabling Technologies.
In July 2010 three Commissioners – Vice President Tajani, Commissioner for Digital Agenda Nelly Kroes, and Commissioner for Research & Innovation Maíre Geoghegan-Quinn – called together a group of high level representatives of key member states and several industry sectors in order to assess the competitive situation of advanced materials, biotechnology, micro- and nano-electronics, nanotechnology and photonics, and to recommend appropriate policy measures for a more effective deployment of these technologies in Europe.
In order to ensure broad input and transparency, the High Level Group is hosting an open workshop on the development of nanotechnologies in and from Europe. The workshop will take place on October 27 in the Charlemagne conference center of the EU Commission.
Representatives of the European Commission, Member States, and of various industries such as solar, wind, automotive, nano-electronics, construction, ICT, Investment and insurance companies, as well as experts in technology acceptance, will attend.
Key issues for discussion:
- The international competitive situation of nanotechnologies
- The barriers to their exploitation, with a focus on the value chain
- Policy initiatives to be undertaken to foster market take-up and solutions for societal challenges
